About Us
Our Humble Beginning
A family-owned business, Lees Optical Co Ltd was established in 1963 by Dr Edward Llwellyn Lee. In December 1963, he migrated from Guyana to Jamaica with his wife Mary Olga and their five children. He made his mark in the world of optometry in Jamaica by opening Edward Lee & Son – Optometrists/Opticians located at 7 Paisley Avenue, Kingston 5. His wife managed the administrative side of the business, and together they would give their expert advice on frame and lens selections.
Our Milestones
- In 1965, the business expanded by acquiring another office located at 7 Melmac Avenue, Kingston 5. This allowed us to expand our operations and to facilitate a first Class showroom for frames and the opening of a state-of-the-art lab in the name of Lee's Optical Lab. It was owned and operated by the eldest son, Edward Simon. For the next 30 years, the company continued to produce the highest quality eyeglasses, offering outstanding customer service to its patients.
- In 1997, yet another state of the art lab, X-Cel Optics Lab, opened its door. It was owned and operated by the youngest son, Christopher. Dr Edward L Lee continued to operate Lee's Optical Co Ltd with his wife Mary Olga, their two sons Edward and Christopher, and their three daughters Diana, Sharon, and Annette.
- In 2002, he added glaucoma imaging to his practice and with Dr Albert Lockhart as consulting ophthalmologist, the practice flourished.
